Faux? I don’t think so. This is lovely, Alex. A mix of melancholy and thoughtfulness. Those grasses were so pretty while they lasted.

I think the natural world is the most difficult to look at in autumn (except perhaps in Seattle, where winter is just an extended rainy late fall that will, by February, begin to shift to early spring).

For me, poetry is such a personal exercise that sometimes, even though I have kicked those doors open, they slam back shut.

Your poem is a beautiful, reflective journey, Alex. I used to write poetry — a long, long time ago — and I can relate to the emotional level and vulnerability necessary for this type of writing. Nonfiction writing in posts, articles, and lenses keeps those emotions safely in check. ;-)

Thank you, Jennifer. Yup, the emotional investment is great. No hiding behind facts, figures, opinions, or even fictional characters.
