I cannot tell you how many I’ve written and I sometimes still feel like I fail. Always get down to what I think is the final word count and end up with needing to pare one or add one. THAT is a real frustration.

Writer? Masochist? You mean the two are not mutually exclusive? Well, I’m at least one of those, and a proud member of “Run-On Sentencers Anoymous”. Combine that with crippling creative ADD and this might be just what the doctor ordered. 55 words? I think I might have to try that. Do “I” & “a” count?

For someone who is so severely afflicted, you sure have deadly accurate aim when it comes down to gunning for your target.
Old Doc Self-Critic has attempted squelching my verbosity with a massive dose of 55 word fiction. I still end up spending a day trimming an “I” or an “a”, and even constructing contractions.

Here’s one I cooked up a while back at 66 words length. Carved it down to 55 for this:
STARPILOTS-
Starpilots land on a desolate world. Gritty red dust clings to their spacesuits. Janus VII curiously inspects the site. “This must be an altar from an ancient civilization. See how these metallic pillars line up from east to west.” Janus tries to read the strange markings on one column: Jane Loves Dan, Cadillac Ranch, 2014.
