I hear ya, adverbs SUCK. When I read a piece with a million and a half adverbs, I immediately think the writer is very limited and unskilled. Call me a writing snob if you will, but if you can’t convey imagery or invoke thought with your words, you’re not a writer. And ending every word with “ly” is elementary.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Adverbs should be used sparingly but I have a never say never rule when it comes to grammatical rules!

Not seeing myself as a ‘writer’ Post like this are interesting nonetheless, like watching a pedal steel player explain how he plays a song, even though you play only the 6 string.
Damn! and you guys keep all these rules in mind and still write good stuff!
(Given that I spent most of my school years trying to sneak *out of* English class, if my interest here does not prove the existance of a god with a messed-up sense of humor, then nothing does.)

You are completely right, but for some of us novice writers it much easier said then done. I’ve often wondered it writing is a skill that can be learned or a talent.
