We make decisions everyday of our lives — which fast food restaurant to patronize, what brand of coffee or toilet paper or which cable company will we opt for — none of which are life changing decisions. Yet, we all have made life changing decisions, good and bad.
This week’s memoir prompt is about missed opportunities – those you controlled or those you had no control over. In chapter 12 of Lou Willet Stanek’s book, “Writing Your Life” she challenges us to write about:
“…real choices you made, and actual missed opportunities…”
Fantasies, desires and the “what if’s” in life are what dreams are made of but the realities are often much different.
Here are some ideas to stimulate your memories:
“If only I had…”
“If only I was…”
“If my parents would have ____, I could have ____”
“He/She was already gone by the time I learned.”
“No one else showed up.”
“He/She didn’t leave a message.”
